Who are we
Devine & Co. consists of a team of staff including qualified accountants, trainee accountants and support staff. All of our staff are committed to continuing professional development (CPD / CPE) training.
Our clients are wide ranging, from all over Ireland. We deal with Limited Companies ranging from small to large, audit and audit exempt, in various industries e.g. Pharmaceutical, Food Processing, Retail, Hospitality, Manufacturing and Services. Also among our clients are Professionals, Doctors, Solicitors, Famers, Partnerships, and Sole Traders. We are also involved with Government, Pobal, and EU funded bodies.
We perform a significant amount of ad-hoc work including Grant applications, Due Diligence, Internal Control reviews, Bank restructuring and re-financing, negotiations with Revenue, etc. Devine & Co have a strong relationship with Ireland’s leading Law Firms, Tax Specialists and Banks. We are one of two firms that have specialised in Insolvency Business in the West of Ireland for the past 20 years.
The firm is subject to voluntary annual compliance reviews to ensure our high standards are maintained. We also have access to consultancy support to assist with compliance obligations.
Sinead is originally from County Galway and graduated from UCG in 1984 having obtained first place in her B. Comm. Class. She went on to complete a Diploma in Professional Accounting in UCD. In 1987 she qualified as a Chartered Accountant and she was admitted to the Institute of Taxation in 1986. During this time she trained with KPMG and was a Taxation Manager with them.
Sinead joined Ahern & Co. in 1990 and became a partner in the practice in 1996. With her expertise in taxation, she brought a wealth of knowledge particularly in the setting up of tax efficient structures, Revenue audits, VAT compliance, etc.
As the Principal of Devine & Co., Sinead takes a genuine interest in our clients businesses. Her approach is to understand clients’ goals be they maximising profits, minimising tax, negotiations or compliance. Sinead considers these goals and presents a practical, commercial, approach to achieving them.
Sinead has responsibility for clients ranging from small to large sized companies, locally based family businesses, individuals and government bodies. She has extensive experience in advising clients in areas such as corporate restructuring, internal control reviews, insolvency, bank funding and raising finance.
Sinead completed a Diploma in Insolvency by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland and deals with High Court Liquidations, Creditors Voluntary Liquidations and Receiverships.
She also provides forensic accounting services and has often served as an expert witness in court on behalf of clients. Sinead also serves, in a voluntary capacity, on various local committees.

Sandra Carroll, a native of Boyle, graduated with an honours degree in Business Studies in 1996. She went on to qualify as a Certified Public Accountant while training with a medium sized practice in Dublin. In 2001 Sandra moved to Kilkenny and joined PricewaterhouseCoopers’ South East practice. As a Senior Audit Manager she gained a vast amount of experience during her six years there.
In 2007 Sandra moved back to Boyle and joined us, with primary responsibility for managing the delivery of our audit service and for general accounting and consulting assignments. In 2014 she obtained her Practising Certificate and is an approved Responsible Individual under the Chartered Accountancy Regulatory Board.
Sandra has extensive experience in providing services to a wide range of clients from very large corporations to small owner managed businesses. Sandra has also helped develop the firms audit approach and methodology. She has experience of varying assignments in both private and publicly funded companies, including Grant applications, Due Diligence, Internal Control reviews, Bank proposals etc.

Lorraine qualified as a Chartered Accountant while training with a small practice in Sligo. In 2001 Lorraine moved to Dublin and joined the tax section of Andersen/KPMG where she completed the Institute of Taxation exams and was admitted as a member of the Irish Taxation Institute. In 2003 Lorraine returned to Sligo and joined the tax department of Gilroy Gannon where she worked for 9 years.
In 2012 Lorraine joined Ahern & Co, she provides clients with tax advice under all tax heads and responding to ad-hoc queries as they arise. She is also involved in our Tax Compliance Services for clients and assisting clients with all matters of queries raised by Revenue, including Revenue Audits, Aspect Queries, etc.

Geraldine is our longest serving member of staff, with the practice since 1984 when she joined after completing a Certificate in Business Studies (with Distinction). In 1991 she obtained first place in the country in the final admitting exam of the Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland.
Through her vast knowledge of accounting and taxation Geraldine has continued to provide a hands-on approach to ensure the client’s needs are dealt with promptly, thoroughly and efficiently.

The firm, formerly Ahern & Co. was established in 1976 by Fergus Ahern, a native of Boyle. The practice grew over the years. Sinéad Devine joined the firm in 1990 and became partner in 1996. Sinead brought with her particular expertise in taxation. Over the years the firm grew significantly gaining new work in Tax, Audit and Insolvency.
The practice previously won Business to Arts awards for its involvement with the Boyle Arts Festival and Devine & Co. continues its ongoing support of the festival.
Sadly in September 2010 Fergus Ahern died suddenly and Sinead took over the firm and became the Principal. The firm has been re-named to Devine & Co.
